RELAXING ON THE PATIO
When Tammy slapped Joe, Ben and I were sitting right there in our lounge chairs, best seats in the house. They invited us to their big barbeque every year and it’s mostly pretty boring. A few people get drunk and dance around, the vegetarians end up eating a lot of red meat because they take the day off from their diet or something, and a few movies are played in the front room. This year, they were playing Forrest Gump and I couldn’t stand that movie when it first came out. Life is not like a box of chocolates. So Ben and I grabbed the lounge chairs and a couple of beers to relax out on the patio. It was cool out and you could see all the stars. Then Joe and Tammy came out arguing over someone named Beth and Ben asked me if that was Joe’s secretary. It dawned on me. I’d called up Joe a few times and he’d said he was having lunch with his secretary. I’d call him back and he wouldn’t answer. Who has lunch for two hours? Everyone there heard the slap. It echoed, I swear. Everyone there stared and I bet they were wishing they had the best seats for all the action like we did. Tammy threw Joe out and invited everybody to stay as long as they wanted, which killed the mood a lot, but hey, Ben and I still had our beers.
