NEED MY OWN PLACE

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 12:29 pm

Don’t touch that dial, he warned me.  I’m listening to the Bears game.  Oh, no you’re not, I said, moving toward the radio.  I want to hear “Marketplace” and I intend to hear it.  I know we can’t afford to have two radios in this den of misery, but you get to hear all the sports.  Brad’s watching a reality show on the TV, he complained.  I know, I said, that slacker.  Why do you always call Brad “slacker?” he said, laughing.  You know why I always call him that, stop being an idiot.  Commercials were on; it was almost half time.  “We can refer you to hundreds of local relocation services", the radio droned.  He started mimicking the voiceover.  This guy is really funny; he should try out for Second City or something, but instead, here we are, all UIC graduates, still living in a one-bedroom in Lake View, and only one of us actually working full-time, Brad, that is.  Brad, who happens to have grown up in Austin, Texas before his parents split up and his mother decided to move to the Midwest.  He isn’t as much of a “party animal” as Greg and I, though.  On weekends he either stays at his mom’s house out in Itasca or shuts himself in and watches TV.  Brad was engaged to one of our classmates at Illinois, can you believe it?  She called it off!  None of us know what happened to her, but I think only Brad really doesn’t care.
